Real Name: St. John "John" Allerdyce
Code Name: Pyro
Sex: Male
Affiliation: None
Age: 26
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 185 lbs
Hair Color(s): Strawberry-Blond
Eye Color(s): A cold blue
General Appearance: John is a fairly handsome man, despite the chaotic expression in his eyes. He keeps his hair fairly short due to a past experience when he was just getting adjusted to his powers. He works out regularily, and was fortunate enough to have a complexion that allowed him to tan instead of get severely freckled when he spent time in the sun.
Known Relatives: None
Powers: Pyro can manipulate fire, controlling its size, heat and shape. However, he is incapable of creating the fire at will, and requires a source, be it a cigarette lighter or a flamethrower.
Detailed History: John was born and raised in Melbourne Australia. He attended public school as a child, where he would act-out on a daily basis and get himself into all sorts of trouble. But despite his deliquent behaviour, he excelled in English Literature and World History.
As a teenager John fell in with a bad crowd. He would help them on raids, breaking and entering, vandalism and robberies. It was on one of those raids that his powers manifested.
The ring-leader had planned a hit on the Mayor's house. John was to lead the main group in and try to do as much damage as possible. John took his possition around the back of the house, and waited for the signal that the alarm system had been disabled. He waited there for almost ten minutes. Finally he got impatient, and went back to the front door to see what was going on.
One of the wires had short-circuted and started an electrical fire inside the house. One of the other kids was screaming his head off, others were running away from the scene. John punched the kid in the face to bring him back down to earth so he could get a straight answer out of him. Apparently they had been wrong about there being nobody home. The mayor's wife had apparently stayed behind that night to take care of a few family affairs. She was trapped inside the building.
The other kid was terrified that they had just murdered someone. John didn't wait around for long before he barrelled into the burning building to pull her out. Luckily the fire hadn't spread much on his way in, and other than a little smoke he found the middle-aged woman without any trouble. She had passed out from inhaling too much smoke. John, only fifteen years old, did his best to drag her out of her room toward the stairs. But by the time he made it to the landing, the fire had spread and was engulfing his only escape route.
John was petrified. What was he going to do?! He was trying to drag a 200lbs woman out of a burning building! He noticed that the more he panicked, the higher the flames grew. Not being completely dim, he knew that panicking wasn't going to help him at all. Instead he slowed his breathing and focussed on getting the hell out of there. Suddenly the fire started to shrink and move away from him. He watched it carefully, as though willing it to give him a pathway out of the house.
John felt an emense rush of power as he walked out of the burning building, looking much like Moses parting the Red Sea. Unfortunately the police weren't nearly as impressed. John was arrested on the spot.
Because he was a minor, John faced time in Juvenile Hall until he was 18. He spent the next three years trapped behind a concrete fence and barbed wire with nothing to do. He completed highschool through correspondence and was encouraged by his tutors to enter story writing contests, and think about writing as a career.
A month after his 18th birthday, they tried him as an adult. The former mayor and his wife decided to let it go, since he did save the woman's life. His record was cleared, and John was free to go and find his own way in the world.
John moved to the states in his early 20's and started writing short articles for news magazines and gothic romance novels that became a sort of underground success. He didn't have a reason to use his powers, and he could get along without being a suspected mutant, so he lived a fairly normal life.
Recently, though, he'd been getting bored with the norm. Reports of arson began to errupt into the news like wildfire.
Personality: John first and foremost wants to entertain himself. He doesn't have much use for concern for others. He's well spoken, and charming and witty, though he can have a fairly abrupt change in attitude. He can be unpredictable and downright ridiculous sometimes.
Sample Post:
John scratched idly at the back of his ear, as he usually did when he was feeling frustrated with something. He was reading over his latest notice from his editor on changes that needed to be made to his new manuscript. John hated it when they did this. It was always something really nit-picky too: The protagonist was too unbelievable, the love interest's breasts were too small, there wasn't enough spice-
There was onely one sure-fire way to make him feel better. Picking up a matchbook, John struck one of the paper sticks across the back and dropped the tiny flame into the garbage. The stack of crumpled paper ignited immediately. John smiled a wicked smile as he watched it all become blackened ashes.
For the final flourish, he played with the flames, shaping them into the image of a fist holding up it's middle finger at the editor's list of corrections. With that, John tossed the offending piece of paper in as well.
Satisfied with the night's little bit of destruction, John put out the fire before it spread throughout his entire apartment, put on his coat and shoes and went out for a drink.
